Mexican Town Raffles Off Car To Be Driven 50 Years From Now

A town in Mexico is granting one lucky raffle prize-winner a new car, but there’s a catch. The car can’t be driven until 50 years from now. The car, raffled off by the town of Ojinaga in Chihuahua is set to be buried as a time capsule for the winner’s relatives to drive in 2068.

The car, rightfully named “El Viajero Del Tiempo” aka The Time Traveller was bought by an association in charge of putting on the yearly “El IV Reencuentro Ojinaguense” festival. Needless to say, they thought it’d be a great idea to bury the brand new car filled with handwritten letters and trinkets from 2018 for future residents and raffle winner to find when the car is dug up.

As fun as an idea it may sound a lot of residents were upset with the project. The time capsule sparked controversy given that most locals can’t even afford a used car. Some hoped that the association would have just donated the new car instead of burying it for 50 years. Despite the criticism, the town went on with the burial and now the winner is reportedly counting down the days until they can claim their prize.
