Woman Accused Of Kidnapping and Raising Baby As Her Own

Sentencing is underway in the case of a Lowcountry woman accused of kidnapping a baby from a Jacksonville hospital and raising it on her own in Colleton County.

Gloria Williams was arrested in January 2017 and charged with kidnapping. She pleaded guilty in February.

The sentencing hearing is expected to last for two days, and the kidnapped daughter could possibly testify.

Investigators in Florida determined Williams had entered a Jacksonville hospital in a nurse's uniform on July 10, 1998 and kidnapped a child.

A woman was determined to be the abducted child through DNA testing with Williams allegedy using the name Alexis Manigo for the child.

A tip sent to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led investigators in Jacksonville some 200 miles away to Colleton County, where they found an 18-year-old woman with the same birthday as the missing girl but living under a different name.

Williams' story began to fall apart when authorities realized fraudulent documents were being used to establish Manigo's identity.
