As news was filtering to the public, many inaccuracies flew… even with the press.
There was the assumption that Rick Fox was on board and the one saying that all of Kobe Bryant’s children were with him. That story is the most emotional and it got the reporter who said it on camera suspended,
Matt Gutman is the chief national correspondent for ABC News. During a live report, he said it was believed that Bryant’s other daughters Natalia,17; Bianka, 3 and Capri, 7 months, were on the ill-fated helicopter too. While Gutman later corrected himself and apologized on Twitter, the damage was done.
ABC News suspended the reporter, explaining “Reporting the facts accurately is the cornerstone of our journalism. As he acknowledged on Sunday, Matt Gutman’s initial reporting was not accurate and failed to meet our editorial standards.”
