Man Breaks Into Animal Shelter, Frees 150 Dogs, Steals Van

(Abilene, TX) -- A Texas man is locked up after he allegedly broke into an animal shelter over the weekend and set more than 150 dogs free. Police in Abilene say the 38-year-old man climbed the fence surrounding the Abilene/Taylor County Animal Services shelter, got into the shelter through the roof, and opened many of the dog cages. Police say he got away in a van that belongs to the animal shelter. Police later found the van and the accused dog liberator. Police say one of the dogs died and several others were injured fighting with each other. Some dogs still hadn't been rounded up by Monday evening.
