Steinway Collector Has A Piano With Thomas Edison’s Teeth Marks

Robert Friedman buys and sells Steinway pianos, and currently has a grand piano once owned by Thomas Edison that has some shallow indentations in the black lacquer above the keyboards that were made by Edison’s teeth.

Edison was hard of hearing, and he pressed his teeth into the wood of pianos and phonographs to feel the vibrations in his skull, which he called “hearing through my teeth.” Friedman bought the piano for around $45k in January 2021 as part of an estate sale.
