Mattel Releases Barbie For Wilma Mankiller:

The first Cherokee Nation woman to serve as Principal Chief is being honored with a Barbie dollWilma Mankiller served as Principal Chief from 1985 to 1995. The doll from Mattel is part of the Barbie Inspiring Women series. During her tenure, Mankiller was known as a fierce advocate for social justice, and improving healthcare and housing services within the tribe. Barbie is also donating $25-thousand to the American Indian Resources Center, which supports initiatives aiming to empower indigenous women and girls. Other women honored in the series include Maya Angelou, Hellen Keller, Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosa Parks and astronaut Sally Ride.
