Klynn Scales did not have a very happy childhood. She grew up in a home filled with drugs and violence. There were many days where she resorted to stealing food from the nearby 7-Eleven just to keep her two brothers fed.
At the age of 9, Klynn met a police officer who must’ve known things were tough. He would stop by her house every day, and Klynn would greet him with a smile and wave before running up to him.
“Through all the bad situations, I would just picture him saying that he was here for us and that if we ever needed him, he would be right there,” she told WGN. “He would always protect us, and so those words would come to me during the worst times of my childhood.”
