Jake Owen is telling us more about his recent go-kart accident, admitting that his injuries are more serious than he let on. He wound up having surgery on his hand after trying to race a couple of NASCAR drivers earlier this month at a North Carolina track.
While he made light of things by tweeting pics of himself in the hospital and post-surgery, Jake has said that there's a possibility that he won't be able to play golf, play guitar, surf or a number of other things that he loves ever again.
The one thing he can't do right now which is really bothering him is hold his baby daughter, Pearl. Jake said, "That's the worst part about it. I could care less about guitar."
Jake said the accident happend when he was going about 40 miles per hour at the time when he accidentally flipped his go-kart. He was wearing all the appropriate safety gear, but Jake said when he got up he realized that his hand hurt and it looked like, in his words, "the glove was just disintegrated." He said, "After seeing that, I was in shock."
He got several stitches at a local hospital, and when he returned home to Nashville, he had surgery where he said doctors "basically put (his) fingers back on."
"I shattered my fingers -- the bones inside. The doctor said it was like taking a cinderblock and dropping it on your hand. Like, it spider webbed the bones inside my fingers. So he had to suture the bones back up to even make it a bone and then put a screw in there to keep it together."
Since surgery, Jake says he's been in extreme pain, and it's gonna be about 8 weeks before doctors can determine how he's going to heal up.
Meanwhile, he's still on tour with Jason Aldean. We'll keep you posted on is recovery...here's a post-accident performance of Barefoot Bluejean Night:
